Former New Horizons Academy daycare employee charged with malicious punishment of a child

A former employee of the New Horizons Academy daycare in St. Paul has been charged after video allegedly caught him hitting a 4-year-old in the face.

The criminal charges say Aaron Bonnette, 29, was seen on video grabbing the child’s shoulder with one hand, lifting him in the air, and repeatedly striking him in the face on June 25.

Citing the criminal complaint, KARE 11 reports that the 4-year-old child had bruises on his face when he got home. The mother provided photos when she reported the incident to the police.

The director of the daycare told investigators that Bonnette had been fired and that the incident was reported to state licensing authorities, according to KARE 11.
