Hennepin County will pay $3.4 million to settle a lawsuit brought by Storms Dworak on behalf of the family of Lucas Bellamy, who died in the county’s jail in July 2022. Jeff Storms served as lead counsel in this litigation, and the firm was assisted by co-counsel Jill Oleisky of Oleisky & Oleisky, P.A.
Bellamy suffered in obvious agony, crawling on his hands and knees to beg for help to treat his severe stomach pain. He ultimately died of an untreated perforated ulcer.
The settlement is believed to be one of the largest ever reached in Minnesota for a jail death.
