FBI investigating inmate’s death at Red Lake jail

The FBI has opened an investigation into an inmate’s death at the Red Lake jail, according to the Star Tribune.

Robin Lee Hanson, 52, is the third inmate to die at the jail since 2022. Hanson’s daughter called the jail a “torture chamber” in an interview with the Star Tribune.

The Star Tribune reported that Red Lake Tribal Chair Darrell Seki Sr. said in a phone interview he was aware of the inmate death, and had been advised to not comment until the FBI completes its investigation.

The two other inmates who died at the jail were Dwan White Owl in 2023, and Joseph Fairbanks Jr. in 2022, according to the Star Tribune.
