A Brooklyn Center in-home daycare operator has been charged with second-degree manslaughter in the death of a 7-month-old last summer after allegedly failing to call 911 for 20 minutes after the baby was found not breathing and unresponsive in a swing, KSTP reports.
Medical experts who reviewed the case concluded that quicker action by 58-year-old Narcisa De Jesus Morales Deleg could have prevented the Taylor Eliam Rea Calderone’s death, the charges allege.
According to the complaint, the child’s mother told investigators that when she came to pick up her child, Morales Deleg came outside holding the infant, who was not breathing. The charges allege that the mother told Morales Deleg to call 911, but Morales Deleg questioned why she should do so.
Police say an analysis showed that an emergency call was mad e 23 minutes after the infant was found unresponsive, and a review of Morales Deleg’s phone showed her messaging family members and parents of other children she was watching during much of that time.
