A 16-year-old died and her passenger severely injured in a head-on crash with a semi near Northfield on Jan. 20, according to the Dakota County Sheriff’s Department.
According to the department, the semi driver was traveling westbound on 320th Street when it collided with a 2012 Lexus CT that attempted to turn east on 320th Street from Foliage Avenue.
The two occupants of the Lexus were found unresponsive, and deputies provided lifesaving efforts. The driver, 16-year-old Berlyn Berghuis of Northfield, was pronounced dead. The passenger, also 16, was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries and is currently being treated. The driver of the semi was not injured.
