Veterans home resident dies after nurse gives fatal morphine dose

A resident at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Minneapolis was killed in April after a nurse gave him a lethal dose of morphine that was 20 times more than prescribed, KSTP is reporting.

The finding comes following a Minnesota Department of Health investigation, which revealed that a nurse practitioner at the facility ordered the resident to receive 5 mg of morphine every hour as needed.

However, a nurse gave the resident 100 mg – a mistake discovered only after the resident died.
