Two dead, child hospitalized following police pursuit of carjacker

Two people are dead and a child is in the hospital after a carjacking suspect being pursued by police crashed into another vehicle, multiple media outlets are reporting.

Minneapolis police chief Brian O’Hara said the incident began at about 8 a.m. following reports that a man with a gun carjacked a woman in the south part of the city and fired multiple shots into the air as he sped away, according to KARE 11.

Police tracked the stolen car into North Minneapolis, where squads started a pursuit. O’Hara said the pursuit ended three minutes later, when the carjacking suspect smashed into another car. Two women and a child were inside that car; the two women died, while the child was taken to a hospital.
