Jeff Storms has joined the team of lawyers civilly representing the next of kin of George Perry Floyd Jr. Storms filed the civil lawsuit on behalf of the family on July 15, 2020. Storms has also been bringing widespread attention to the death of David Cornelius Smith, whose family Storms previously represented and continues to represent today. Mr. Smith died at the hands of Minneapolis police officers in similar fashion in 2010. When the Smith family settled its case with Minneapolis, the City promised it would provide training to prevent future deaths, such as Mr. Floyd’s. Mr. Floyd’s next of kin have alleged that the City failed to provide that training.
