A St. Paul man has been charged with criminal vehicular homicide after he is accused of hitting a 66-year-old man on a mobility scooter, then driving away, according to KSTP.
The victim, Donald J. Piele of St. Paul, was struck near the intersection of Phalen Blvd and Rose Avenue. He was taken to a hospital but died the next day. The crash was captured on surveillance camera.
Police say they tracked down the alleged driver, 21-year-old Erick Gabriel Fuentes-Morales, whose car had front-end damage and was missing pieces similar to debris found at the scene, according to KSTP.
Fuentes-Morales allegedly admitted to hitting a person when officers said the crash was captured on video. He said he didn’t see the victim until it was too late.
