A 1-year-old boy is dead and another person seriously after a Mississippi police officer shot at a vehicle while responding to a shoplifting call, according to the Associated Press.
Kohen Wiley was riding with his mother and another woman in a Senatobia Walmart parking lot on June 14 when police responded to a shoplifting call. The family says they were driving away, while the officers say the car was heading toward them, the AP reported.
“I watched my baby take his first breath, and I watched my baby take his last breath,” Kohen’s mother, Vellesiya Wiley, said at a news conference.
The family and attorney Ben Crump have demanded the release of video footage from the incident.
