Box truck driver charged for allegedly failing to heed stop sign, fatally striking motorcyclist

A St. Paul man driving a box truck has been charged with criminal vehicular homicide for allegedly fatally striking a motorcyclist last September, according to KSTP.

Todd Curtis Thorstad, 63, of Glenwood, was stopped at a stop sign at an intersection when a truck driven by 33-year-old Ramon Jesus Garcia Rangel came up behind them and failed to stop, hitting Thorstad, KSTP reports. Thorstad died at the scene.

Court documents state that Rangel was driving 62-67 mph, according to KSTP, just above the posted speed limit of 60, but told police that he didn’t see the stop sign and only realized the other vehicles were in front of him when it was too late.
