Family wants answers from child protection after 4-year-old’s death

The family of a 4-year-old wants to know why Hennepin County Child Protection failed to act before he was killed in a tragic accident, according to KSTP.

The boy, Anthony Sobaski, was in a car with his mother when she allegedly drove over a center line and crashed head-on into a minivan. She has since been charged with criminal vehicular homicide after she was accused of driving after using meth and THC.

Sobaski’s grandmother, Angie Klapperick, told KSTP that the boy tested positive for drugs when he was born. KSTP reports that records showed “Hennepin County received a report alleging neglect” in September 2022, but “those same court documents, which were filed in April 2025, did not show any follow-up visits by Hennepin County Child Protective Services for the two-and-a-half years before the deadly crash.”

When asked if her family believed Hennepin County did not do enough, Angie told KSTP, “100%. Not a doubt in our minds.”
