Blue Plate Restaurant Co-Founder Dies in Motorcycle Crash

Multiple media outlets are reporting that the co-founder of several popular Twin Cities restaurants has died in a motorcycle crash.

David Burley, co-owner of the Blue Plate Restaurant Co., began his journey with the opening of Highland Grill in St. Paul in 1993. Over the years, he expanded his business to include six more restaurants—Groveland Tap, Longfellow Grill, Edina Grill, 3 Squares, The Lowry, and The Freehouse—as well as the popular Blue Barn stand at the Minnesota State Fair, according to the Star Tribune.

The crash reportedly occurred on westbound Interstate 94 near Hudson, just before the Minnesota border, as per the Wisconsin State Patrol.

The State Patrol reported that a car in the right lane attempted to overtake other traffic by using the right shoulder. The car struck a guardrail, veered back into the right lane, and collided with Burley’s motorcycle.

It is alleged that the car’s driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, the Star Tribune reports.
