The Department of Human Services reversed course on Nexus East Bethel Family Healing and will now allow the trouble facility to continue operating after suspending its license in May.
The state sanction came after finding that the psychiatric child residential facility’s continued operation presented “an imminent risk of harm to persons served.”
Among the reasons cited for the suspension:
- Residents basic rights were not protected;
- Allegations of suspected maltreatment were not reported as required by mandated reporters;
- Medications were not administered safely and accurately;
- The response to behavior that presented imminent risk of harm was ineffective;
DHS has also found the facility repeatedly responsible for neglecting and maltreating its child residents.
KSTP reported that the facility was the source of 178 emergency calls in 2025 alone.
DHS lifted Nexus’ suspension on June 17, after agreeing to scale back its offerings and submit to more rigorous oversight, according to the Imprint.
