A veteran mountain bike racer was critically injured when a pickup truck driver with faulty brakes failed to yield on a Bloomington street and struck the man as he rode to work, according to the Star Tribune.
Jeffrey Hall, 49, of Farmington, was riding on westbound Old Shakopee Road on Aug. 12 at Normandale Boulevard when the pickup driver hit him. The driver was cited for failing to yield and “operating a vehicle with brakes not in working order,” the Star Tribune is reporting.
The Star Tribune reviewed the pickup driver’s driving records and found he had a history that included five convictions for driving after his license was revoked, three for driving without proof of insurance and one each for driving an unregistered vehicle, having expired tabs, disobeying a stop sign and speeding. The state Department of Public Safety said Monday that Hall’s license was valid at the time of the crash.
Hall’s wife posted in an online fundraiser that her husband sustained a multitude of injuries and broken bones.
