Detainee dies in Mille Lacs County jail

A 57-year-old Onamia man died Friday after being found unresponsive in a Mille Lacs County jail cell, the county sheriff said in a press release.

The man had turned himself in on outstanding warrants two days earlier, according to the sheriff.

After being found in his cell, staff and medical personnel rendered first aid before sending him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The sheriff said the cause of death is pending the results of a toxicology report and an investigation.
